AnasaziThe
anasazi are one of the five slave races taken from their homes by the Ches. They
are originally from the continent of Mwana. Anasazi is also the name of the
country that was founded by and ruled by the anasazi race. Physically,
the anasazi are tall, thin, and dark skinned. They tend to shave their heads and
tattoo their skull with white writing proclaiming the accomplishments of the
individual. The writing is in an ancient language, called oninth, with
only a written form. The only group with any appreciable number of people that
can read oninth are the anasazi. Anasazi
typically dress in long flowing white robes with a black turban covering their
shaved head. An anasazi showing his head to you in public is an unspoken
challenge to the death. A
relatively small number of anasazi rule their country. To be born a full-blooded
anasazi is to be born to rule. The edicts of an anasazi in Sephras must be
obeyed by all members of the “lesser races”. Failure to do so results in the
killing of the offender. The anasazi have a strange attachment to large cats. It isn’t rare for an anasazi lord to keep a number of tigers, lions, leopards, and cheetahs as pets. ArreansArrean is the default name of a Caucasian race that dominates the northern section of the Arrean continent. Descended from the Larlanites that fought the Ches in the Godswar, and mixed with the other local races, "arrean" is a catch-all race. Arreans
come in all shapes and sizes and their personal traits are usually affected by
their nationality far more than their actual race.
DaleenThe
daleen are the race of people that live in the southern end of the Arrean
continent. They were the original subjects of the Chessian Empire. The now
inhabit the lands known as the old lands; the lands of Yamun, Jakul, Hera,
Kephra, and Erthinyl. There is also a large number of daleen in the Saltwind
Isles. Daleen
have a light-brown, almost yellowish skin color. The common daleen tend to wear
simple cotton robes tied at the waist, while the wealthier wear silk. Most
daleen wear peaked turbans with the opulence of your turban being a show of
power and wealth.
HarusThe harus are another of the five slave races taken
from their homes by the Ches. Their original homeland is the grasslands of Mwana.
The harus wander the grasslands of Anasazi and the deserts all the way to the
South Sea. Harus are typically between 5 and 6 feet tall, with
light-brown skin, dark hair and dark eyes. Their skin tends to be wrinkled and
cracked due to exposure to the sun. Their clothing is typically a loose-fitting
robe tied at the waist with a belt. Desert harus cover their heads and faces
with a turban to protect them from the harsh climate. Grassland harus typically
wear kaffiyeh to cover their heads. Full-blooded harus are seldom, if ever, encountered without their horses, or in the desert, camels. It is said that some harus never leave the saddle of their own accord. HilgrimHilgrim live in the mountain range known as the Roof
of the World. They subsist mainly as shepherds and miners. Many hilgrim
communities cooperate with nearby dwarven rulers, providing trade goods and
links to the outside world in exchange for protection when the humanoid
population becomes restless. The hilgrim are a short, barrel-chested people well
adjusted to life in the high-altitude of the roof of the world. Hilgrim wear
warm, tight-fitting, furred clothing in their homeland. The hilgrim believe in the power of individuals, and
it isn’t uncommon to encounter a lone hilgrim living deep in the mountains
completely alone. Some of the wisest hilgrim run monasteries, training monks in
the arts of individual combat. IrbaniThe irbani are a race of people indigenous to the
large number of small islands that form the Storm Isles, Pirate Isles, Saltwind
Isles, and the small isles of Asgorath. They are a simple people with a love of
the sea. Some of the world’s most skilled sailors are irbani. Irbani are small framed, with a ruddy complexion and
dark hair and almond-shaped eyes. Personal traits are usually affected by tribal
customs rather than by race. MwananMwanan is a default name for the race of people that
inhabit the continent of Mwana. They are the progenitors of the anasazi, harus,
and the wrengren. Mwanan people have tribal identities, not racial. Mwanans range from light-brown to dark-brown skin,
most have dark hair and eyes. Some mwanans are tall, some are short, there is no
typical size or feature to the mwanan tribes. They are the most varied race in
the world of Arrea, and most tribes adopt some sort of man-made feature to
differentiate their tribe from their neighbors. NossThe noss are a race of people that live in the island
country of Nossus. They are powerful wizards, sorcerers, and seafarers. Noss
individuals tend to be quiet, secretive, and very suspicious of strangers. The noss are thin, wiry, and generally between 5 and
6 feet tall. Their hair colors range from brown to blonde with the occasional
redhead. Redheads generally have a talent for the sorcerous arts. NothThe noth are a seafaring race that originally comes
from Jotunheim, but took to the sea to escape when the giants became too
numerous. They are a hearty race and they have strains of their bloodline
throughout the northern hemisphere of Arrea. Racially speaking, the Knar that
live along the coast of the Drakken Sea, the Anar that live on the coast of
Anaria, the Deargh raiders of Quelorl, as well as small communities that live on
Jotunheim, are all noth. Noth people are tall, strong, fair-skinned people
with wide-ranging hair and eye colors. The noth tend to follow the paths of
their ancestors and live off the land. They are warlike raiders that seldom
settle into long-lasting communities. They have a strange notion of ownership;
if you can take it…you own it. QuelansWhile not necessarily a race unto themselves, the
quelans are sufficiently different to not be lumped in with any of the other
races. The quelans are a mixture of arreans from Talaxia, ancient noss settlers,
savage noth raiders that settled Quelorl in short-lived communities, and the
indigenous people. Quelans can look like members of the arrean, noss, or
noth races; however, their facial features are generally more angular, almost
elf-like. There is also a high concentration of redheads in Quelorl. Quelan
redheads always have a talent for sorcery. VizaliThe vizali are nomadic gypsies that travel the world,
trading trinkets and services to scrape out a meager existence. Most communities
are mistrustful of the vizali, and with good reason. The vizali supplement their
normal income with confidence games, minor divinations (some legitimate, some
not), and circus-like entertainments. It is rumored that the vizali have some sort of power
to allow them to travel long distances in a small amount of time. It is unknown
if this is true, but it does seem as if the vizali hold many secrets.
WrengrenThe wrengren were a tribe from T'Kau Mouth that were
displaced by the Ches. The wrengren have settled in the Drake Mounts of northern
Tekat. They have a treaty with the Tekkans that states that they will send a
contingent of warriors to Arkhan to help protect the blood mages, and the
Tekkans will not destroy them. Wrengren have dark-brown skin with black hair. They
are well known for their intricate braids that they wear in their hair.
YanniThe yanni are a group of people indigenous to the icy
lands of Anaria. They live on the coast, hunting the local wildlife that lives
off the sea. The yanni are a short, stout people with tanned skin and dark features. They wear furs and are often at war with the Anar raiders.
