The Eyes are still active throughout the city, but they are mainly active in Old Town. Although the leaders of the guild feel that the entire city is their territory, they find that there are areas that are no longer safe for their members.

Shops & Services

The Blackhammer: This smithy is located in the Cliffs. It is owned and operated by Duran Blackhammer, an exiled dwarven noble from Hammerhold. This is the finest smithy in Xraxus. Any item made by Duran himself is masterwork and cost an additional 10% (above and beyond the normal masterwork price increase). An item with his mark sells for the higher price if the buyer knows his mark.

The Grand Market:  (#2)

Inns & Taverns

Aunt May’s: This inn is a large, three-story establishment with many beds and a 24-hour kitchen. Because owner May Hill does not offer a dining room or bar, this inn sees little traffic from locals or adventurers. Aunt May’s does enjoy an excellent reputation among traveling merchants. (Fine/Inexpensive: Silver Hill)

Bimble Hobbler’s: This small persons’ establishment is owned by the former adventuring gnome after whom the inn is named. Both the inn and tavern portions of the business offer accommodations for larger folk. Several gnomes of note frequent the bar, including the famous traveling poet Berkee Stumpjumber and renown illusionist Feloon Lorelittle.  (Excellent/High: High Bridge)

The Black Shanty: Owned by Jacob Black, the Black Shanty is a small, dark building with no windows is frequented by some of the most unsavory characters in Xraxus. Many an underhanded deal has taken place in its curtained booths. (Poor/Cheap: Crabtown)

Cat House: This inn and tavern was originally known as “Bender’s” after its owner Neil Bender. But the establishment was most often referred to as “The Cat House” due to the many domesticated felines that roam the building and the surrounding property. Bender eventually gave in and officially changed the inn’s name. Frequented almost exclusively by adventurers and local rogues, the public areas are always strangely quiet. Adventurers gather in large, private booths that permit discreet conversation. Bardic entertainment is generally limited to solo string instruments or unaccompanied female vocalists. Neil Bender is a well-respected former jewelry thief who still maintains contact with several guilds. Because he has retired from thievery, guilds generally leave him to his own devices. Bender is recognized be those within Xraxus as a man who should not be angered. This, fortunately, is easy to do, provided that you respect his property and show nothing but affection for the cats that have brought his business fame. (Average/Inexpensive: Daruun's Pass)

The Chain and Anchor: In Dockside, the most popular tavern is the Chain and Anchor. Frequented by sailors in port, the Chain and Anchor is a rough and tumble establishment with brawls almost nightly. (Poor/Cheap: Dockside)

Deepwell Downs: Named for the well built into the center of the taproom, Deepwell Downs is a popular entrance into the Undercity. Many adventurer types pay a 5 gp toll to enter the Undercity through the well. For this reason, the Undercity area around the Deepwell is reasonably safe. Deepwell Downs is run by Jerry Polis, a retired adventurer in good-standing with F.O.D.D.E.R. (Average/Expensive: The Cliffs)

Fat Daddy’s: Fat daddy is referred to as Hal Carter by only his mother and the tax collector. Everyone else refers to the prodigiously proportioned innkeeper by his descriptive nickname. Fat Daddy’s is known for serving up sticks-to-your-ribs cooking and quality draft beer. Though he appears dim and slow, fat daddy is known to all his regulars as a truly heroic bare-knuckles brawler. Numerous times he has pummeled sword-swinging troublemakers with nothing but his fists (and the occasional forehead smash). (Average/Inexpensive: Cemetery Row)

Gertrude Grissom’s Boarding House: Ms. Grissom’s boarding house offers accommodations geared toward the long-term guest. The four-story building is kept impeccably clean and the tavern offers home cooking to sate the appetites of adventurers who call the house home. A number of adventurers and professional caravan guards have resided at the boarding house for over a decade. Gertrude is an accomplished conjurer and sage specializing in planar meta-physics and temporal mechanics. (Average/Moderate: High Tower)

Heavenly Traveler: The Heavenly Traveler is a small inn owned by the church of Ahrlin. The building itself is rumored to have been visited by Ahrlin himself.  The Heavenly Traveler is the most secure inn in Xraxus as there are always several Ahlinites guarding the building. The inn is managed by Jerth Tumel, a crippled cleric of Ahrlin. (Average/High: Misty Downs)

Kelin’s: Kelin’s is an inn and tavern favored by those who really enjoy food. Owner Kelin Alanaron is a middle-aged elf who has previously worked as a brewer, vintner, chef, farmer, and alchemist. He now uses all of these talents to serve-up the best food in Xraxus. Though there are more expensive and more exclusive dining establishments, no one severs better food in a friendlier, more fairly priced tavern/inn. Kelin pride’s himself on his knowledge of regional and racial delicacies, and usually has the necessary ingredients to fill any customer’s culinary request. Though clean and well run, the inn here is really an afterthought. It is most often utilized by patrons who’ve overindulged need a place to crash.  (Excellent/Expensive: Gate Heights)

The Lurker Above: A fine tavern around the corner from Grenholm Place, the Lurker Above is a fine inn with interesting decorations scattered around the taproom. The owner, Holden Kersee, is a professional taxidermist that specializes in the stuffing of uncommon creatures. The tavern gets its name from the centerpiece of the tavern’s collection, a large lurker hanging above the center of the room. The Lurker is frequented by adventurers and avoided by the locals. It is rumored that several of Holden’s creations can animate and attack people causing problems. (Fine/Expensive: Old Town)

The Two-Pint: This bar is a popular watering hole with both locals and travelers. Their signature beverage is an enormous draft beer served in a two-pint glass. Owner Gil Brown is known to supplement his income by making loans. Naturally, he is rumored to be involved with a local thieves guild. (Meager/Cheap: Newport)

The Woodchuck: This small inn & tavern is a simple establishment with clean rooms, fair prices, and good food. Operated by former carpenter Chuck Stein and his family, this inn is a favorite among adventurers who appreciate good service and a quiet place to rest. Chuck’s wife Alice does all of the cooking. The menu is always simple, featuring beef stew, pork roast, and occasionally fish. Bartenders Michael and David Stein (Chuck’s sons) are well liked by the regular patrons and are always well informed regarding recent events among the adventurers that spend time at their bar. (Average/Inexpensive: Overlook)

The Wyvern’s Spur: The largest, most successful inn/tavern in the city, the Wyvern’s Spur is a richly appointed dance hall, gambling establishment. Owned and operated by an ancient half-elven woman named Seina Alaine, the Wyvern’s Spur caters to all classes, as long as the customer has coin. (Fine/Moderate: Lakeland)

Note: There are many more sailor taverns in Dockside and Newport. They are all of poor quality and dangerous to the uninitiated. Many a person looking for a cheap drink have fallen asleep and awakened on a ship bound for some far-off land.

Geography

The Canal: Originally a small creek, the industrious people of Xraxus widened it to act as a thoroughfare so they could transport goods by river more easily.

Daruun’s Pass: This is a large natural pass leading from Cemetery Row in the upper city to the lower city neighborhood named for this feature.

The Drop: The ridge separating the upper city from the lower city is known only as the Drop.

The Flats: The Flats are a large mudflat on the coast just south of the city.

Gallows Isle: Gallows Isle is the island in the middle of the harbor. It was named for the gallows built on the island.

The Long Walk: The Long Walk is a long, gradual ramp leading from North Falls to High Tower. It is one of only two publicly accessible paths from the lower city to the upper city.

Morgan’s Lake: The Lake in the center of the upper city was created when a powerful wizard named Morgan accidentally collapsed a cavern in the Undercity, creating a large cavity that filled with water from the canal.

The Stump: The large rock formation forming the north and east boundary of the city is known as the Stump for its resemblance to the stump of a giant, petrified tree.
