Maymill

Maymill is a medium-size village situated on the Low River approximately one day south of Lowlake. The village has existed in its current form for approximately 500 years. Maymill’s function in this region is to supply Tinley Distillery with barley and peat for the production of their (world renowned) whisky.

The area around Maymill supports some of the most efficient barley farms in Arrea. Additionally, the bogs beside the Low River are an excellent source of rich peat. Maymill’s entire population is connected in one form or another to the cultivation of either barley or peat. Similarly, the qualities associated with The Tinley Malt Whisky are attributable to the quality of these raw materials. The codependence of the distillery and the village is a situation quite common throughout the islands of Quelorl.

Every major (and minor, for that matter) distillery in Quelorl prides itself on the consistency of its quality. This consistency is what whisky drinkers throughout Arrea look for when purchasing a bottle of Queloran whisky. Master Distillers, in turn, rely on the consistent quality of the materials that go into their product. Therefore, it is quite common for a distiller to rely on the same family of farmers to supply their grain and peat for many generations. This relationship between supplier and producer creates a nearly familial relationship between business partners that is rarely seen in any other industry or region.
