People point to the fact that the swamp is growing and that undead sometimes attack from the swamp as proof that there is a malign intelligence controlling the evil in Lifeswallower. (A)

Description

Muggy in the summer, damp in the winter, and full of insects year round, Ash-Melin is shrinking rapidly. The swamp is steadily encroaching on the eastern portion of the city. The only thing keeping Ash-Melin from sinking into obscurity is the trade that runs through the port.

Trade from Katay saves a week by traveling by ship to Ash-Melin, not to mention the lessened chance of banditry/monster attacks. Any other trade from the south finds Ash-Melin as a receptive gateway to the lucrative markets of Leonay.

Ash-Melin is situated on the coast with piers built onto the eight small islands off the coast. Building out into the water allowed the builder to create a port where there wasn’t a natural port. All buildings in Ash-Melin are built on thick wooden supports sunk deep into the ground, and holding the building about 15 ft. out of the water. All of the piers that act as roadways also extend about 15 ft. above the water.
