The
Eyes of Kadinastis are a group of Mage-Priests that rule the islands of Nossus.
They seldom leave their homeland, when they do it is usually a young eye
trying to get some experience and see the world.
When
not in their homeland an Eye of Kadinastis wears a special robe known as a
shimmerrobe. It is a symbol of Nossan heritage as the mightiest wizards in the
world. However, the eyes of an Eye of Kadinastis are the most striking things
that set then apart from the lesser spell slingers of the rest of the world. The
eyes of an Eye of Kadinastis are truly wondrous things. Their eyes look like
pools of molten gold that is constantly flowing through his eye sockets.
In
their homeland, the Eyes of Kadinastis are the rulers and nobles of Nossus.
Their purpose in life is to learn the intricacies of magic.
The
Eyes of Kadinastis are a secretive and aloof lot. By the time they reach 2nd
level, they know more about magic than all but the most talented outsider mages.
Their knowledge, however, is never taught to other mages or priests from
other lands. Players running such
characters should simply assume a superior air and chuckle occasionally at the
lack of knowledge displayed by other spellcasters in the group.

Requirements:
To
qualify to become an Eye of Kadinastis, a character must fulfill the following
criteria.
Class
Skills:
The
Eye of Kadinastis’ class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are
Alchemy (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (any)(Int), Knowledge (all skills,
taken individually)(Int), Scry (Int), and Spellcraft (Int).
Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier.
Class
Features:
All the following
are class features of the Eye of Kadinastis prestige class.
Weapon and Armor
Proficiency: Eyes of Kadinastis gain no proficiency in any armor or weapons,
though they retain any knowledge gained from former classes.
Low-Light Vision
(Su): An Eye of Kadinastis gains low-light vision if he doesn't already have
it.
Bonus Metamagic
Feat: At 3rd and 5th level, an Eye of Kadinastis may
select a bonus metamagic feat.
Darkvision (Su):
An Eye of Kadinastis can see in the dark as though he were permanently affected
by a darkvision spell.
Shadesight (Sp):
At 8th-level, an Eye of Kadinastis’ eyesight increases to point
where he can see normally through any darkness effects, but not through
fog, invisibility, obscurement, and so forth.
Instant
Metamagic (Su): Once per day, the 7th-level Eye of Kadinastis can
use a single metamagic effect of any metamagic feat he knows on a spell
without preparing it beforehand (if a wizard) or increasing its casting time (if
a sorcerer or bard). The wizard's prepared spell works as if prepared with the
metamagic feat except it uses the same spell slot. A sorcerer or bard's spell is
cast without the adjustment to the casting time but works as if cast with the
metamagic feat. A 9th-level Eye of Kadinastis can use this power
twice per day.
Improved
Metamagic (Su): At 8th-level, the Eye of Kadinastis has mastered
metamagic to such an extent that whenever he uses a metamagic feat, the feat's
level increase upon a spell is reduced by one (this can't reduce an increase to
less than one level, or less than zero levels if the increase is already +0).
For example, an Eye of Kadinastis wizard could prepare a quickened fireball
as a 6th-level spell instead of a 7th-level spell.
See Ethereal
(Su): Three times per day, an Eye of Kadinastis of 9th level or
greater can see into the Ethereal Plane for a number of rounds equal to his
class level. He can see ethereal creatures up to 60 feet away, although they
appear gray and insubstantial (as objects on the Material Plane appear to
ethereal creatures). This does not give him any additional ability to attack
ethereal creatures, but he can utilize spells and effects that affect ethereal
creatures (such as force effects and abjurations) normally, so he could cast a magic
missile at an ethereal creature. This ability is used as a free action.
See Invisible
(Sp): Three times per day, an Eye of Kadinastis of 6th level or
greater can see invisible as the spell. This ability is activated using a
standard action.
Spellcasting:
An Eye of Kadinastis’ training focuses on magic. Thus, when a new Eye of
Kadinastis level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had
also gained a level in whatever Spellcasting class he belonged to before he
added the prestige class. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a
character of that class would have gained (improved chance of controlling or
rebuking undead, metamagic or item creation feats, and so on). This essentially
means that he adds the level of Eye of Kadinastis to the level of whatever other
spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per and caster
level accordingly.
If a character had
more than one spellcasting class before he became an Eye of Kadinastis, he must
decide to which class he adds each level of Eye of Kadinastis for the purpose of
determining spells per day.
Ritual of
Awakening: When a young wizard or cleric is inducted
into the ranks of the Eyes of Kadinastis, they undergo a ritual that transforms
them into a pure receptacle for magic.
The ritual changes
the new Eye greatly. His eyes transform into pools of molten gold that glow
whenever he casts a spell. At this time he gains no new abilities related to his
eyes.
The character
permanently loses 2 points of Constitution and Strength and permanently gains 2
points of Intelligence and Wisdom.
Also,
the character is given his shimmerrobe. A shimmerrobe is a gossamer robe of
golden cloth that glows with a faint light (equal to faerie fire). The
glow can be muted, as a free action at will. A shimmerrobe grants a +2
deflection bonus to AC and a +4 bonus to all Charisma-based skills checks when
dealing with characters or creatures with any knowledge of Nossus.
