Into Nei (Session #7)

After stopping the yuan-ti rogues from extorting money out of the owner of the Five Feathers, the group had some down time.

Cassandra played at her favorite inn in the north end of the city, garnering praise from the locals.

Kerzog stayed at the Five Feathers and got work as a bouncer.

Grundel stayed around the building site with the dwarven workmen, getting to know the guards, and just generally watching a waiting.

Whistler spent a lot of time as the All-Knowing, a bookstore owned by a sage named William Warner. When he wasn't there, he split his time between the Five Feathers, the building site, and he saw Cassandra play a couple of times.

After about three weeks, the White Circle building was close to complete. One afternoon, Whistler and Grundel were in front of the building and noticed two men in bright red robes squat down in front of the building and etch something on the ground. After the men left, Whistler and Grundel approached the writing and saw that it was a red fang with four blood drops. Since the red fang is the symbol of the guild of the same name, the companions came to the conclusion that it was a death mark calling for four deaths. Whistler and Grundel quickly warned Cassandra and Kerzog, and the group decided it would be safest for them to stay together for a while. Fortunately, the White Circle headquarters were close enough to finished that the group was able to move into their quarters.

They spent the next couple of days furnishing their new apartments until, at the opening ceremony, Carl McKann arrived. The companions approached him and he told them to come to his office the next morning. He had a quest that he would like the group to attend to.

First thing the next morning, the group met in Carl McKann's office to get their quest. Carl explained that in the second age there was a great war between the forces of good and evil, in this battle a legendary sword, Juril the Foebleeder, had lost its powers. There is a legend that if the sword could be bathed in the fountain known as the Tears of Dalystar that its powers would return. McKann had the sword and gave it to the group to find the fountain and soak the sword within. He told the group that the fountain in located in a complex on one of the highest peaks in the Nei Mountains.

The group met with the White Circle's wizard, Fenius McGee. Fenius teleported the group to an area near the entrance to the complex. He told them in to meet him in the same area in two days for the return trip.

As the group made their way towards the entrance, Whistler spotted a group of four dragonkin. The drogonkin hadn't seen the party, so the group attempted to stealthily approach them. Unfortunately stealth isn't Kerzog's strength and they were seen quickly. As the dragonkin approached, Grundel, Cassandra, and Kerzog sent arrows streaking towards them. When they were within range Whistler sent a magic missile streaking towards on of the creatures. As Kerzog, Grundel, and Cassandra rushed forward to engage the beasts, Whistler hung back and summoned a celestial dog to aid in the battle. After several minutes of battle, it seemed as if the battle wasn't going well for the heroes, so Whistler used a magical scroll to summon a lantern archon to aid in the battle. The battle turned and the group was able to defeat the four dragonkin.

The group passed through the arch that the dragonkin were guarding and they entered a clearing with a melted section of snow that formed a dragon in flight. They entered the complex; unfortunately they were far too careless and they stepped on a pressure plate that caused several needles to shoot from holes in the wall. The needles hit Grundel and Kerzog, and they had a strong poison which sapped their strength. The group holed themselves in an antechamber to rest for the night and hopefully recover from the poison.
