Previous: Homecoming? (1)Session 5: TravelersAlisnier and Jelana Strongwillow have been living in the Leonese city of Alranda for 10 years without any correspondence from their family in Eareth. This all changed on one early spring morning. Alisnier was practicing her weapon drills when a messenger hailed her with a letter from her uncle Willamet. The basics of the letter were that there was an unspecified family emergency that required Alisnier and Jelana to return to Eareth. That very same day, Alisnier and Jelana packed, hired a driver, and prepared to begin their journey on the following morning. Grafton Mahler, a ranger of half-orcish ancestry, spent most of his free time hunting poachers, evil humanoids, and other monsters. On this particular day he was on the trail of a small group of goblins that had been raiding local travelers. He was gaining on the goblins when he heard a loud scream: a goblin warcry. He rushed forward in time to see the dozen goblins rush out towards a carriage being driven west toward Elf Friend. The four goblins riding dogs cut off the path of the horses pulling the carriage. Grafton rushed forward and fired, killing a goblin. Two elven women jumped from the carriage as the carriage slowed to a stop. A couple of the goblins climbed up to the driver's seat to attack the driver while the Strongwillow elfmaids and Grafton attacked the remainder of the goblins in melee. The three of them were able to cut through most of the goblins before Grafton was knocked unconscious by one of the final few. Alisnier was dropped by the final goblin, and Jelana was able to dispatch the final goblin using her superior maneuverability. Jelana was able to pour a potion of cure light wounds down Alisnier's throat to awaken her from her injury induced unconsciousness. She was able to bind Grafton's wounds to stabilize him so they could move him. The elven women brought Grafton with them and continued on the road to put some distance between them and the ambush site. A day later Grafton awoke, stiff and sore from his ordeal. After some pleasantries, the elf women explained that they were summoned to Eareth by their uncle. They told Grafton that he was welcome to travel with them if he wanted to. Grafton had always wanted to visit the elven city, but his orc blood kept him from approaching the city without an elven escort. During the trip along the road between Elf Friend and Eareth, the companions fought a group of tree-creatures called twig blights, as well as a pair of giant bees. Neither battle was terribly eventful.
