Session 4: Homecoming?
The group entered the town of Ash-Melin after nearly a month of travel through the foothills of the Ronsym Mountains. The group headed straight for the Great Beacon of Rendolar. Inside, the group was met by two Rendolarian priests and a visiting priest of Arthom. The two Rendolarian priests looked as if they had seen a ghost. Astaria immediately went on the offensive, demanding that the priests explain the obviously failed mission that the group was returning from. The High Priest, Hollis Frederick, tried to diffuse the situation by telling Astaria that he was thrilled that the group had returned. He wasn't very convincing and the group stormed from the church.
The Arthomite priest followed the group out and hailed them. He introduced himself as Erol Darmarus, the head priest at the Church of St. Antheum. Erol told the group that he had a job for the group if they wanted to get out of the town while the excitement died down with the church of Rendolar. The group told him that they would listen to his proposition in the morning.
The following morning, the group met Erol at the Church of St. Antheum. Erol explained that a group of Rendolarian priests of the Deadbane sect had traveled into the local swamp to destroy a spellstiched wight that had taken up residence in some old ruins. The Deadbane priests were long overdue, so he wanted the party to travel to the ruins and either capture or destroy the creature so he could study it.
The group hired a local guide named Bobby Letterman. He came highly recommended by Erol. The group left the following morning.
Just over a day into the journey, the group was attacked by a large group of ghasts. The group made quick work of the undead and continued to the ruins containing their goal.
After drudging through a large swampy area, the group spied a hillock rising out of the surrounding swamp. There were several ruined buildings and a completely destroyed cemetery.
